Meet the new faces in Cabinet
The Committee on Appointments has on Monday sat and vetted the newly-appointed cabinet ministers.
Last week, President Yoweri Museveni announced a mini reshuffle in the cabinet, making a few changes from the first cabinet list in 2021. The six new faces in the cabinet include; Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi who has been appointed the State Minister for Trade. At the time of his appointment, he was serving as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), a position that has now been given to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Kitgum Woman MP, Hon. Lillian Aber, is now the State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, replacing Hon. Esther Anyakun, who is now the State Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations.
The National Female Youth MP, Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro was appointed the State Minister for Minerals, replacing Hon. Peter Lokeris who has been elevated as the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, following the sacking of the embattled Mary Gitutu over iron sheets scandal.
The other new face in cabinet is the Sironko Woman MP, Hon. Florence Nambozo Wamala, who is now the State Minister for Karamoja Affairs. She replaces Hon. Agnes Nandutu who was also implicated in the Karamoja iron sheets saga.
Renowned events promoter and National Vice chair of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi is also among the new faces in cabinet. Balaam was appointed the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, replacing Sarah Mateke, who is now State Minister for Defence, following the elevation of Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth as Minister of Defence.
Dr. Kenneth Omona, the former Principal Private Secretary to the President is another new face in cabinet. Omona was appointed the State Minister for Northern Uganda, replacing Grace Kwiyucwiny who was dropped. All the five new faces today appeared for vetting before the Appointment Committee chaired by Speaker Anita Among.
