UPDF Names New Coordinator for Somalia Mission

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has appointed Colonel Boaz Kashaya as the new Coordinator of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), replacing Colonel Victor Busobozi.

Presiding over the handover ceremony at the Land Force Headquarters in Bombo, the Chief of Staff, Land Forces, Major General Chris Bagonza, commended Col Busobozi for his resilience, teamwork and determination. He said these qualities contributed to effective coordination of UPDF troops deployed on foreign missions.

He encouraged Col Kashaya to work closely with staff, consult whenever necessary and maintain close coordination with the Land Force leadership.

Col Busobozi urged his successor to strengthen coordination with relevant institutions and stakeholders to support the effective execution of the office’s responsibilities.

In his remarks, Col Kashaya thanked the UPDF leadership for appointing him and pledged to execute his responsibilities to the best of his ability. He asked Col Busobozi to remain available for consultation and guidance to support a smooth transition and effective execution of the office’s duties.

The ceremony was attended by the Director of Anti-Aircraft and Commander Land Forces, Brig Gen Kasauli, directors at the Land Forces Headquarters, and senior and junior officers.
