Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) on Monday commenced training of 2650 Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel at Labworodong Military Training School in Agago district.
According to UPDF spokesperson Brig. Flavia Byekwaso, the military training has attracted 509 females.
While briefing the trainees, the Deputy Commander of the UPDF Fifth Infantry Division Brig Stephen Mugerwa “called for conscious discipline, loyalty, sacrifice, perseverance and patriotism, among other core values,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
According to Brig. Mugerwa, it’s those values that have stimulated the success of UPDF.
The training will last for six months.
Last month, UPDF embarked on country-wide recruitment of LDUs to augment its protection and defense capabilities.
