Old Kampala and Lungujja police stations has 56 students from Lubiri Secondary School in its holding cell after arresting them for destroying property during a Sunday evening strike.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire says the strike involved mainly students from candidate classes, without disclosing the kind of property that was destroyed.
According to Owoyesigyire, the students had been aggrieved by a teacher named Benjamin Mulondo who allegedly abused two of their colleagues called Brenda Kayaga and Shamira Nalubega, both in senior six by caning them.
“The students would later show their dissatisfaction by destroying school property,” the police spokesman said.
Police says the students will be examined by a police surgeon to facilitate the investigation which is being conducted by Lungujja Police.
The accused teacher is currently on the run.
