Africa Not Having Insurer of Stability is Suicidal - Museveni

“Elites have since thrown the idea of Pan Africanism out of the window. The idea of political integration is not mentioned at all. Many actors in Africa are busy with all sorts of issues, including following European Football clubs, but no time for integration. This is suicide!”

President Yoweri Museveni has said that Africa’s biggest failure has been lack of strategic security, noting that among the fifty-three nations none can guarantee the continent’s freedom.

“Our greatest failure is Strategic Security. Africa has no strategic center of gravity. Africa has no insurer of her stability, sovereignty, and survival as an independent continent. None of the 53 countries can guarantee our freedom. They are too small even when developed,” the president tweeted on Friday.

President Museveni has been at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership retreat and tweets were excerpts from his message to the leaders.

According to President Museveni, while some leaders like Nelson Mandela, the former South African president, fought for independence, they never dealt with strategic security.

He added that the youths who should be working upon it have resorted to frivolous activities that are non-essential to the development of the continent.

“Madiba did his part, he fought when he could and was stubborn in prison when he needed to do so. Madiba and colleagues sacrificed a lot to achieve independence, solidarity etc. They did not get time to deal with strategic security, which is now for us and the youth to deal with,” he observed.

“Elites have since thrown the idea of Pan Africanism out of the window. The idea of political integration is not mentioned at all. Many actors in Africa are busy with all sorts of issues, including following European Football clubs, but no time for integration. This is suicide!”

President Museveni has over the years, called for African integration, saying that it’s one the best ways to strengthen continental socio-economic development.
