President Yoweri Museveni will on Thursday, 20th April 2023 meet Members of Parliament of the NRM party over the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023 that was passed by Parliament last month.

The meeting is expected to take place at State House, Entebbe to harmonise on the anti-gay bill that is currently before the President for assent. Museveni is yet to sign the bill since it was unanimously passed on 21st March 2023.

"President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the chairman of the ruling NRM Party will on Thursday this week, convene the Party's Parliamentary Caucus to discuss among other things; the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023," State House posted on Twitter.

During his recent address to the Parliament, Museveni said there is need to hold further discussions about this anti-gay bill to especially ascertain whether it is scientifically backed or not. Museveni’s emphasis has always been on protecting children against the vice widely embraced in the western world.

“President Museveni has said that once he receives the Anti-Gay Bill, he will convene Ugandan Members of Parliament to harmonize on it & see how best to protect children. Children are children, they need to grow as children, no one should invade their childhood," Museveni is quoted saying in a recent tweet by State House.

The Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023 that was passed proposes tough new penalties for same-sex relationships including death penalty for aggravated homosexuality, 20years jail for committing the offence and 20years for promotion of homosexuality and recruitment of children in to homosexuality.
