Bobi Wine Granted Bail, Warned Against Violation of COVID-19 SOPs

The National Unity Platform Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi has been given a non-cash bail of Shs1m and his sureties, Shs5m each.

Kyagulanyi who was presented in the Iganga Magistrate’s court is being charged with doing an act likely to spread infectious diseases, under section 171 of the Penal Code Act.

He was released on condition that while conducting his presidential campaigns he will strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedures aimed at stopping the spread of COViD-19.

The court was adjourned to December 18.

The NUP presidential candidate was arrested on Wednesday during his campaign in Luuka District.

The arrest of Kyagulanyi led to riots in various parts of the country in which some rioters attacked NRM supporters and vandalized people's property.

As a result, the police in conjunction with sister security agencies have vowed to arrest all culprits that were involved in destructive behavior during the recent riots in and around Kampala.

This comes as an assurance to the public given the fact that most of these violent events took place near or within CCTV camera reach and were captured on recording hence suspects are being tracked down.

The groups being identified via CCTV camera footages include those that collected car tires into the roads and set them on fire paralyzing traffic in the process, the ones who were undressing women wearing yellow dresses and blouses, and the groups that vandalized shops and stole merchandise. Police will arrest all of them as soon as they are identified after scrutinizing the videos.

Our sources have revealed that all security organs under their umbrella organization The Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force have deployed both overtly and covertly in order to monitor and identify the ringleaders of these destructive groups bent on terrorizing innocent civilians.

Some of the protesters have already been arrested and are helping in identifying their accomplices and their hideouts. They will soon be paraded to the public before taking them to court to face the full wrath of the law.

On Thursday 19th November 2020, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Judith Nabakooba condemned these riots and promised that the government through various security agencies was doing everything possible to protect Ugandans and their property. She warned all those bent on causing mayhem in the city and around the country that there will be zero tolerance for lawlessness will be prosecuted.
