
Cabinet Approves NARO Governing Council Members
During the Monday cabinet meeting chaired by Vice President Jessica Alupo, a sixteen-member committee was approved to govern the council of the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) for a period of three years, 2022-2025.
The Council, which will be chaired by Prof William Olaho Mukani -- has ex officio members in Dr Samuel Mugasi, former NAADS executive director; Dr. Ambrose Agona, the director-general of NARO; Dr. Martin Patrick Ongol, Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNSCST) executive secretary; Maj. Gen. David Kasura-Kyomukama, permanent secretary of the agriculture ministry.
Other members are Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr. Ramathan Ggoobi, Prof James M. Kajete, Dr. Sylvester Dickson Baguma, Dr. John Wasige Ejeit, Kenneth Katungisa, Nanvuma Rehema Wandere, Onya George Edward, Jolly Masika Kateeba, Sharon Akullo Atoo, Susan Awino and Olivia Nankunda Mpuuga.
The National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) is an agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) with the mandate to coordinate and oversee all aspects of publicly funded agricultural research in Uganda.
Established as a body corporate by the National Agricultural Research Act of 2005, NARO is mandated to undertake research in all aspects of agriculture including crops, livestock, fisheries, forestry, agro-machinery, natural resources and socio-economics.
