The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has extended congratulations to Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential election.

Taking to X, Gen Kainerugaba, who also serves as the senior presidential advisor on special operations, said: “A big congratulations to President-elect @realDonaldTrump. God bless you and God bless the United States of America under your capable and inspired leadership.”

The CDF joins other leaders in congratulating Trump after media projections confirmed his decisive win in the 2024 U.S. election, defeating his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, and marking a historic comeback for the former Republican president.

Among the first to react was Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who praised Trump’s “historic return” and reaffirmed a “powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commended Trump’s principle of “peace through strength,” seeing it as a path toward peace amid Ukraine’s conflict with Russia.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his readiness to renew cooperation, reflecting on their previous partnership and shared goals. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to the US-UK alliance, citing shared democratic and economic values. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to Trump as a friend, offered “heartiest congratulations” and looked forward to strengthening U.S.-India relations.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa echoed similar sentiments, anticipating continued collaboration as South Africa and the U.S. prepare for back-to-back G20 presidencies in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
