A man in Kabale District has been arrested after he faked a kidnap and asked his parents to send him Shs4million so that his kidnappers could release him.
The boy together with his purported kidnapper have both confessed to the crime. It is however not clear why the young man was trying to defraud his parents in a disguised kidnap.
According to police in Kabale, Victor Twinamatsiko 26 years of Katoma cell Mwendo parish Kitumba s/c Kabale district was hiding at one Pratazio Twinomujuni's place at Ryeza cell Bubare parish Muko s/c Rubanda district.
He reportedly told his parents that his life was in danger claiming that his captors in Kampala demanded for the money so that he could not be harmed.
His parents however seem to have sensed the fake kidnap. The parents subsequently reported the case to police which initiated inquiries and started tracking the kidnap case from the date he claimed to have been kidnapped.
He claimed he was kidnapped on 30/10/17 till 12/11/17 When the two were arrested from their hideout.
“We want caution parents/ guardians that before you pay any ransom for alleged kidnap please report to us otherwise most kidnaps are fake,” Patrick Onyango, a Kampala based communications officer in the police posted on Facebook.
