COVID-19: Uganda Continues to Register Progress as 20 Patients are Discharged
Uganda continues to register gains in the fight against COVID-19 as so far, 20 patients have been discharged meaning, that the active cases are now shrinking each day. On top of that, all the 1,162 samples tested yesterday (Thursday) were negative.
According to the Ministry of Health press release, 839 of the samples were from truck drivers at the border points of entry while the 323 samples were from individuals under institutional quarantine and contacts in the country.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Uganda still stands at 55, however, the active cases are now 35.
Patients defeat COVID-19
The health ministry also confirmed the discharge of eight patients who fully recovered from COVID-19 after testing negative twice. Seven were discharged from Mulago National Specialized Hospital and one from Hoima Hospital.
In the Press release, the health ministry revealed that a cumulative of 1,395 contacts to confirmed cases were listed to date. Of those, 1,079 have completed the mandatory 14 days follow up period.
"The remaining 316 contacts are still being followed up by surveillance teams. A total of 936 individuals have been discharged from institutional quarantine while 173 individuals are under quarantine," the statement read.
The Ministry also reminds all travelers that arrived in the country from abroad between March 7th and 22nd to allow the Ministry of Health teams to collect samples from them for a checkup.
Strict Measures
On Tuesday, President Yoweri Museveni maintained restrictions stretching to May 5 in a bid to stem further, the spread of the deadly virus that has killed more than 136,000 people worldwide, infected more than two million including prominent persons like the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
