Former NEMA ED, Tom Okurut is dead

The former Executive Director of the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), Dr. Tom Okurut has died. 

Dr. Okurut passed away this afternoon at Platinum Hospital in Kampala after a short illness. 

According to a family relative, Dr Okurut is said to have suffered a blood clot that was advancing to his brain and was admitted at Platinum Hospital for surgery on Friday. 
"He complained of severe headache and when he was taken to the hospital. They said he had a clot and they had surgery on Friday. Unfortunately, the situation worsened today and he has passed away," the relative said. 

Dr. Okurut retired as NEMA boss in July 2021 after his appointment in 2011 and was later renewed in 2016.
