President Yoweri Museveni has named a new cabinet.

Katakwi Woman MP Jessica Alupo Epel has been appointed Vice President while Kakumiro Woman MP Robinah Nabbanja, who was previously the state Minister of Health has been named as the Prime Minister.

The Presidential Press Secretary Lindah Nabusayi has confirmed the news.

Alupo,47, a retired army officer initially served as Minister of Education and Sports from 2011 to 2016 before she was dropped after losing her Parliamentary Seat in 2016 to Violet Akurut. She reclaimed the Parliamentary Seat in the January 2021 elections.

This news comes after the Clerk to Parliament this evening informed MPs that there will be a Plenary sitting on Thursday to approve the appointment of new Vice President and Prime Minister in accordance with Article 108 and 108A of the Constitution respectively.

During the same sitting, MPs will also debate a motion to vary the number of Ministers. While addressing the NRM caucus on Monday, President Museveni informed the MPs that he intends to maintain the same number of cabinet Ministers but only add one state minister bringing the total number of Ministers to 80 up from 79 in 2016.

In other appointments, former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has been appointed as the 1st Deputy Prime Minister.
