Gen Muhoozi in Karamoja: Leaders Pledge Joint Fight Against Cattle Rustling

The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander Land Forces Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba yesterday met all the LC V Chairpersons and Resident District Commissioners of the Karamoja subregion. 

The leaders made a pledge to work together to rid Karamoja of the scourge of cattle rustling. 

The local leaders communicated their challenges after which the CLF told them he would inform the President.

Gen Kainerugaba also urged them to lead the people in Karamoja into a new era of cooperation amongst each other. 

It was a very happy and warm meeting.

Gen Kainerugaba has bern in Karamoja since last Thursday when he first visited the UPDF 3rd Infantry Division in Moroto where he held several meetings with local leaders with the view of ascertaining the status of troops in tackling the ongoing revived efforts towards disarming Karamojong warriors.

In the meeting at the UPDF Division Headquarters in Moroto with the division leadership and other stakeholders, Lt Gen Kainerugaba observed that the government has so far made deliberate efforts towards building and sustaining peace, security and stability in Karamoja Sub-region.

In the initial meetings the CLF called upon civilians with illegal guns to stop livestock theft and urged them to join government and UPDF efforts towards pacifying the region for transformation to take root.

As part of his ongoing tour, Gen Kainerugaba also visited the Nabuin Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute. While touring the institute, Gen Kainerugaba urged the people of Karamoja that are still involved in cattle rustling to instead join modern farming, noting that it is safer and more profitable.
