Uganda will tomorrow, July 20, observe the Eid al-Adha holiday, the ministry of public service announced.
"The Honourable Minister of Public Service informs the general public that Tuesday 20th July 2021 is Eid Adhuha [sic] and will be observed as a Public Holiday throughout Uganda," Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwire, the ministry's permanent secretary said in a statement.
According to the statement, the day will be observed and celebrated from home due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
Eid al-Adha, Arabic for Festival of the Sacrifice, is the latter of the two official holidays celebrated within Islam, according to a Wikipedia entry.
It honors the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God's command, the entry says.
