Kampala: Private security guard shoots wife dead

Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) have launched an investigation into a domestic violence case in which a private security guard is suspected to have shot his wife dead.

According to KMP Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, a private security guard shot and killed his wife at 12:30am in Kigoma village in Bujuuko town located in Wakiso district.

Police did not identify the security company the suspect, who was only identified as Byaruhanga -- was attached to.
 
"It is alleged that on 2/8/2020, one Namuwonge Sarah, 24, a businesswoman renting at mama Nagawa's house was shot by her boyfriend, a private security guard killing her instantly," Owoyesigyire said in an early Sunday statement.

"The suspect, currently on the run, has only been identified as Byaruhanga. Our officers visited the scene, recorded statements, and the body was later conveyed to city mortuary for postmortem."  

The statement cites some witnesses who claim Namuwonge was found with another man hence the shooting. 

"Efforts are on to have the suspect apprehended," police said.

In another homicide incident, police in Kitezi village, Mpererwe parish, Kawempe division is hunting for one  Simon Samanya for allegedly hacking his wife Violah Kakai, a nurse, to death. 

The incident happened today at around midnight in Kitezi, police said.
 
"It is alleged that the couple had a long-standing domestic problem where police had recently intervened and their matter was already court going," reads the police statement.

"Statements from the neighbours have been recorded and body of the deceased person was conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for postmortem."
