Members of the Lango Parliamentary Group (LGP) have backed Jacob Oulanyah for Speaker.

While addressing the media at Kabira Country Club on Wednesday, the Lango MPs headed Minister for Kampala, Betty Amongi acknowledged that the reigning Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has run a good race and it is now time for her to hand over the mantle to Oulanyah as it has historically been the case.

"LPG congratulates the current speaker of Parliament whose unquestionable leadership skills and wisdom has contributed immensely to the growth of the institution of Parliament. LPG would like to note however that over the past couple of decades, the institution has established an unwritten culture of succession to the leadership of the institution based on a two term service for incumbents," said Minister Amongi who is the chairperson of LPG.

The Lango MPs in their joint press statement recognize that Oulanyah, who has served as Deputy Speaker for 10years has exhibited immense commitment to
national unity , development and proven leadership capabilities in various capacities in and outside Parliament.

"LPG would wish to assure the country that it will co-operate with leaders at all levels of government to promote peace, tranquility ,national development and good governance which Lango sub-region is part. Basing on the aforementioned," the statement reads.

" LPG therefore re-iterates its full support for the candidature of Hon. Jacob Oulanyah and further urges other elected members of the 11th Parliament to join us in supporting the candidature of Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah for Speaker of the 11th Parliament."

This endorsement comes hardly a week after the Acholi Parliamentary Group also endorsed Oulanyah for Speaker.
