Man Arrested in Kisoro with 43 Kilograms of Ivory

Police in Kisoro have arrested a 30 year old man for being in possession of 43 kilograms of ivory.

Richard Munyaribanje, a resident of Bunagana Town Council was arrested on Wednesday following a police tip off by a concerned resident.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson says, “Inquiries to establish how the suspect got it (ivory) are underway at Kisoro Police Station.”

In 1989, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) banned trade in ivory and other elephant products following the massive killing of elephants in Africa.
