Minister Ogwang Vows to Track Down Slow Implementers of Government Programs
State Minister for Economic Monitoring, Peter Ogwang has embarked on a countrywide tour to monitor the implementation all Government programs and Projects.
While addressing the media on Friday, Minister Ogwang pledged to track down and apprehend slow implementers of government programs. From 14th September to 30th September, Ogwang will pitch camp in Bunyoro sub region where he will transverse in all the 8 districts in the region.
“As you are aware, every quarter, government releases funds for the implementation of programs and projects in line with the Work Plans submitted by the different MDAs and Local Governments. Unfortunately, some of the funds released have been misused and misappropriated thus depriving the intended beneficiaries of services that would transform their lives,” Ogwang said.
“This is a great disservice to our communities that entrusted our Party, the NRM with the Leadership of this Country. This must stop and it can only be stopped by us leaders who are entrusted with that mandate to lead.”
Of late, government has suffered penalties due to non-performing loans which result to slow implementation of government programs.
“So, I would like to sound a warning to all leaders charged with the responsibility of implementing Government Programs and Projects, to be fair to themselves and implement what they have been charged with for the good of themselves and the people they are entrusted to serve short of which we are coming for them,” he said.
He added that his Office is exploring ways of installing a dash board that will mirror all Government Projects/Programs and the amounts released and utilized for implementing them as well as those that were unutilized.
“I must state that days of waiting to be told that there is a problem here or there are gone. We shall now be proactive in how we conduct our monitoring exercises to ensure that Government Programs/Projects are inspected as they are being implemented from start to completion,” he said.
