Museveni, First Lady Lead Nation to Pay Tribute to Oulanyah
President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni have arrived in Kololo Ceremonial Grounds to pay tribute to the fallen former speaker of parliament, Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah.
Oulanyah died on March 20 in Seattle hospital after suffering multiple organ failure as a result of lymphoma cancer, according to Health minister Jane Ruth Aceng.
On Wednesday morning, the body of Oulanyah arrived at Kololo for a state funeral with President Museveni leading the nation to pay tribute to Oulanyah. Oulanyah’s casket on Tuesday spent a night in parliament to allow MPs pay their last respects.
By press time, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Dr. Kazimba Mugalu was leading mass as the main celebrant.
In attendance are political leaders such as Ministers, MPs, heads of MDAs, foreign dignitaries, family members and Acholi leaders among others. After today’s public funeral, the body will be airlifted to Lalogi in Omoro district, the former speaker’s ancestral home where he will be laid to rest on Friday.
