Museveni, New World Bank Country Manager Discuss Investment
President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday met with the new World Bank Group Country Manager, Mukami Kariuki, who was accompanied by her delegation to State House in Entebbe.
The president said he “called upon the World Bank to support our priorities including industrial transformation infrastructure, education, and health”.
Mukami Kariuki, who replaced Tony Thompson who had been here for three years – began her tour of duty in Uganda on August 1.
She is here to manage the financial institution’s investments currently valued at US$3.9 billion, comprising 27 projects: 21 national and six regional operations.
When she was posted in Kampala, she was tasked to work “closely with the Government of Uganda and other stakeholders to provide innovative products and services that respond to its diverse development challenges and contribute to achieving sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction, with a specific emphasis on COVID-19 recovery.”
Kariuki, who holds a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the State University of New York, has over 30 years of experience in development planning, local government and decentralization, infrastructure development, water supply and sanitation, climate change, and disaster risk management.
For the years spent at the World Bank, the Kenyan national has undertaken assignments in different countries, including Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Philippines.
