New Traffic Guidelines as CSPOC Kicks Off
As the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) kicks off today, Wednesday, police has issued new traffic guidelines for smooth road operations.
SP Michael Kananura, the Spokesperson for Traffic Road and Safety Directorate, advised road users to carefully use the roads and give priority to the conference delegates.
The Conference runs from 3rd to 6th January 2024 at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
"There will be road use restrictions and alternative routes as directed by traffic officers, we thus appeal to all road users to comply with traffic police directives," Kananura said.
He said throughout the conference days, increased activity is anticipated on various routes leading to Speke Resort Munyonyo.
"The Traffic Police advises all travelers who have flights at Entebbe International Airport to plan their Journeys in time to avoid the foreseeable inconveniences," he said.
CSPOC will officially commence tomorrow, Thursday where President Yoweri Museveni is expected to preside over the opening ceremony.
The Conference will focus on how to maintain, foster and encourage fairness on the part of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments. It also provides an ideal forum to promote knowledge and understanding of parliamentary democracy in its various forms aiming at developing parliamentary institutions.
The CSPOC was established in 1969 and operates on a two-year cycle where it brings together the Speakers and Presiding Officers of the national Parliaments of the independent sovereign states of the Commonwealth.
Uganda as a hosting country is expected to accure immense benefits for hosting the Conference such as bolstering tourism sector, strengthening diplomatic ties and sharing economic opportunities.
