KAMPALA. Reports indicating that the former Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura is under arrest have been dismissed as fake news.
While quoting anonymous sources, several media houses and city journalists posted on the social media accounts that the former IGP had been arrested at a hotel in Lyantonde.
The reports described by Gen Salim Saleh as fake news in a response to a social media post had indicated that Gen Kayihura was being held at the officer's mess in Kololo.
Gen Saleh is a senior presidential adviser to President Museveni on security.
This is not the first time reports about the former IGP are dismissed as fake.
A week ago, reports indicated that the former IGP had been blocked from travelling aborad and that his passport had been confiscated, whereas not.
General Kayihura was replaced as IGP by Martins Okoth Ochola after serving in the position for 13 years.
Meanwhile, veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda posted on his social media that a "heavily armed contingent of SFC in tens of military vehicles last evening evening went to Courtyard Hotel in Lyantonde looking for Kale Kayihura."
Although Mwenda did not disclose why the security forces were looking for Kayihura, he noted that he was not found. The Kampala Post could not independently verify this account of events.
