LUWEERO. Four persons have been confirmed dead following a motor accident in Wobulenzi, Luweero District.

The accident on Sunday evening involved a Vitz Reg. No UAS163T and a Fuso truck Reg. No. UAR162G.

Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson Paul Kanganve says the speeding Vitz  coming from Luweero was knocked while trying to overtake the truck which was heading the same direction.

“Last evening at around 16 30 hours, a speeding Vitz No UAS 163T that was coming from Luweero tried to overtake a trailer from the same direction in Wobulenzi. On realizing that there was a car from the opposite side, the Vitz driver tried to break. Unfortunately, the truck No. UAR 162G knocked it on the side and pushed it off the road,” Kangave explained in a statement on Monday.

He added that all the four occupants of the Vitz died on the spot. They have been identified as; Florence Nankumbi, 28 years, Patience Najuma, 28, Richard Lule, 30 and Isaac Mbogo, 32.

“Postmortem was done at Luweero Health Centre IV and bodies were handed over to relatives for burial,” Kangave said.

The truck  driver fled after the accident and is reportedly on the run. Meanwhile the death toll has reportedly risen to six after two more victims died in hospital.
