ENTEBBE. President Yoweri Museveni will tomorrow award the new Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali, a special medal in recognition of his contribution to the independence struggle of Africa.
Dr Abiy is in Uganda for a two-day state visit on Museveni's invitation and the two leaders are set to hold bilateral talks on how to further strengthen Ethiopia-Uganda trade and political ties.
The Ethiopian leader will tomorrow be a special guest at Uganda's National Heroes Day celebrations in Kakumiro District, where he will receive the Pearl of Africa Grand Master Medal.
This is the Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa medal, which is the highest accolade in the country.
Early this year, Abiy, 41, replaced Hailemariam Desalegn as Ethiopia’s prime minister.
250 other heroes will be awarded medals in appreciation for their contribution to peace and dignity in the country.
Equatorial Guinea leader, Teodoro Obiang Mbasogo is the other African president that Museveni has awarded the medal.
Last year His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV was awarded the same medal during the 55th Independence anniversary at Bushenyi-Ishaka grounds in Bushenyi District.
