NRM Launches 'Kisoboka' Agricultural Expo to Boost Productivity in Uganda

The ruling NRM rolled out an agricultural expo known as ‘Kisoboka’ (it is possible) to enhance productivity and wealth creation among Ugandans. 

The drive, which was launched on Thursday by the party Secretary General, Richard Todwong, at the Kavumba Recreation Centre in Wakiso town council, will begin in all districts in the central region before being expanded into other regions.

The program, a mindset change initiative, is the brainchild of the NRM Vice Chairman for Central Region, Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi.

In his speech to the leaders, Todwong said the campaign will mobilise Ugandans into joining modern agriculture with a focus on coffee to increase production, profitability, and wealth creation. 

“This is the gospel we intend to spread throughout the central region among our people. It is consistent with President Museveni’s message of improving people’s livelihoods,” Todwong said. 

According to Todwong, they will attract Ugandans, especially youth, into agriculture by showcasing the success and positive stories of individuals that are already doing well in intensive farming.   

Kiwanda said the expo is in line with the NRM manifesto and the National Development Plan III of socio-economic transformation among citizens through commercial agriculture. “I am hopeful that farmers will implement the knowledge and guidance that shall be offered through sub-regional barazas.” 

He urged Ugandans to also undertake the Parish Development Model and Emyooga government empowerment programmes to access free seedlings and source knowledge from extension workers. 

The NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rose Nsereko Namayanja, challenged leaders at all levels to empower their people through various projects for income generation instead of lamentations against the government. 

“I implore the leaders to spread the information on good farming practices to people in the villages. This is the only way to improve the lives of Ugandans,” Namayanja said, adding that “our trail must show that we are moving in the right direction.”

Other leaders present at the function include NRM Vice Chairman for Western Uganda Chris Baryomunsi, NRM Chairperson for the Women's League Lydia Wanyoto, and NRM Youth League National Chairman Nassur Gaddafi among other notable leaders from the central region.
