The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat has started refunding nomination fee to its party flag bearers for various political seats.

According to sources at the Kyadondo Road based Secretariat, the party is reimbursing their parliamentary flag bearers with Shs2m which they paid as nomination fees during the party primaries. This means that even local council representatives will be refunded their nomination fee.

The source said that the refund is only applicable to NRM candidates who won in the Primaries.

At the time of nomination, each candidate vying for parliamentary seat was required to pay Shs2m, while those vying for LC5 paid Shs1m. In total, the NRM party collected over Shs4bn from nomination forms for various party posts.

It is only the NRM party that set a high nomination fee for various political posts. Others political parties such as FDC, NUP or even ANT did not charge any fee for candidates contesting for parliamentary positions in the primary elections.
