The race for the NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda has become heated after Deputy Speaker and Omoro County MP Jacob Oulanyah declared his bid to oust the incumbent Sam Engola.
Oulanyah on Monday declared his intention to contest for the NRM CEC position on twitter ahead of the NRM Delegates conference starting this week. Elections for the CEC top positions will be held late this year. Oulanyah shared his notice of campaign poster and captioned it “The time is now!”
His candidature has been vastly welcomed by the public especially the NRM members who think that the current leadership under Sam Engola, former minister has not worked to their expectations.
“I believe you’re better than the current holder of the position,” a one Juma Ssegawa responded to Oulanya’s tweet.
It should be remembered that Oulanyah was in 2015 favored to take up the Vice-Chairperson for Northern Uganda seat, only to be ‘sweet-talked’ by President Yoweri Museveni to step down, giving Engola an easy victory against Hilary Onek, current Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees.
Oulanyah is also eyeing the juicer Speakership job currently held by Rebecca Kadaga who is serving her 2nd term as Speaker of Parliament.
In 2016, Kadaga sighed with relief after Oulanyah was again persuaded to step down from the speakership contest, making her go unopposed.
It is unlikely that Oulanyah will again step down in 2021 if Kadaga insists to return for the record 3rd term as Speaker.
