PAP MPs Thrown out of Parliament over COVID-19
Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga on Wednesday ordered all MPs of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) out of Parliament premises untill they produce certificates of completion of mandatory quarantine from the Ministry of Health.
This is after it emerged that the PAP MPs had returned from South Africa on 15th March and have since then been mingling with other legislators in the awake of COVID19.
During Wednesday sitting, MPs raised an alarm after they spotted Kabula County MP James Kakooza in the Plenary despite having been in South Africa.
His attempt to clear the air about his status were futile as MPs demanded that he produces evidence to show that he has been cleared by the Ministry of Health.
"I can not dispute the fact that indeed we were in South Africa but we returned on March 15 even before the new measures had been put in place and also by then South Africa was in the Category A. We shall produce the certificates," Kakooza said as MPs distanced from him.
In her ruling, Kadaga ordered all the PAP MPs to produce their certificates of clearance before they can access Parliament again.
"We are the ones who sent you to PAP and there is no harm with you clarifying with a certificate. Bring your certificates of clearance," Kadaga said as she ordered the PAP out of Plenary.
Other PAP MPs include; Anifa Kawooya, Jacqueline Amongin, Ogenga Latigo and Felix Ogong. Other MPs who have been previously kicked out of Parliament over Coronavirus include; Anthony Akol, Cissy Namujju, Ssekitoleko Kafeero and Ssempala Kigozi.
