Since 1986 under NRM'S leadership, Uganda has held several elections, beginning with indirect elections of 1987, 1989, 1992 and progressing steadily to electing Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government leaders directly through universal adult suffrage in 1996, after the promulgation of the 1995 pro-people Constitution.
Since then, five such elections have been conducted, i.e., 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021.
The making of a pro-people Constitution in 1995 by the people themselves, was a big and strong block for building and entrenchment of the democratic system and culture of having elected leaders through regular free and fair elections at every level. Uganda's economy in 1986 was a mere US$1.5 billion.
Today it is Shs64 trillion, or about US$ 24 billion.
In terms of size, the economy has expanded 16 times in the last 28 years.
