Police in the Western Uganda district of Ntoroko are investigating circumstances under which the Ntoroko District National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson Vincent Mugume was hacked to death on Monday night.
Ntoroko District Police Commander David Anyesigire says Mugume was hacked together with a yet to be identified boda boda cyclist. Their bodies were found dumped in the bush and the motorcycle abandoned at Kandito village in Karugutu Town Council.
According to Police, the deceased was on the fateful night travelling to Kanara from Karugutu on a boda boda when the assailants reportedly waylaid him. “We reached the scene and found the duo lying in a pool of blood but as police we were unable to identify the boda boda man because he had no documents,” DPC Anyesigire told our reporter.
The motive of the murder is still unclear but police initial reports indicate that the NRM Chairman was heading to his second home in Kanara at the time. No arrests have been made yet. The bodies were taken to Fort portal hospital for postmortem as investigations continue.
