President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday commissioned two roads, Hoima-Butiaba-Wanseko Road and Kigumba – Bulima Road in Hoima District, which is located in the oil exploration zone.

"These are part of the government’s 10- year rolling Road Sector Development Program aimed at improving road access to socio-economic facilities," Museveni tweeted after the event.

According to Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), they contracted local companies namely: Roofings, Byola Uganda Limited, Dynaco Engineering, Mantab Engineering Services, among others at different phases of construction.

In total, the current government has tarmacked 8, 588km of roads which translates to an average of 252km of paved roads per year.

Uganda is also currently constructing its second international airport, Kabaale International Airpor, in the oil exploration region.

In 2006, Uganda discovered commercially viable crude reserves of around 6 billion barrels in the Lake Albert area.

President Yoweri Museveni has said Uganda’s oil and gas sector will help the government to create jobs and related infrastructures like pipelines, refinery and other downstream developments which will add to the economy.

“Oil is an infinite resource. We shall use the oil money on durable capacity including modernizing our railway and other infrastructure to improve transportation,” he said.
