Uganda, Croatia Discuss Boosting Trade Ties

Uganda's ambassador to Croatia Elizabeth Paula Napeyok met with Ivan Barbaric, the vice president of the Croatian Chamber of Economy to explore opportunities of enhancing business linkages between the two countries.

In the Tuesday meeting, the duo agreed to host business events aimed at boosting trade.

"It was agreed that a Uganda coffee promotion event be held in Zagreb in Jan 2022 and Uganda/Croatia virtual business forum be held by March 2022 to discuss business opportunities in Uganda for the Croatia business partners," reads a statement issued by the Ugandan Embassy in Rome, where Napeyok resides.

Uganda has this year hosted a lot of events aimed at promoting bilateral ties. The latest about coffee was held in  London on October 27.

Uganda is the second-largest producer of coffee in Africa and currently ranks 7th in the World.

Uganda collected $66.62 million (about Shs238 billion) from exporting 585,576 bags of coffee weighing 60kgs each in September, according to UCDA.

The value of coffee increased in September, with each kilogram trading at an average price of $1.90, 11 cents higher than $1.79 per kilo in August.

"This was an increase of 16% and 50% in quantity & value compared to the same month last year," UCDA said.

According to the Sept. report, 27.75% of the coffee went to Italy, which was the biggest consumer, followed by Germany (12.28), Algeria (11.03), India (10.09), Sudan (9.5), Morocco (6.13), US  (5.03), Spain (4.02), Belgium (2.78) and Israel (1.93).
