22 Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists have been killed during a fierce gunfire encounter with Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday morning.

According to the UPDF Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, UPDF Operation Force of 2 Mountain Battalion came into contact with the ADF terrorists at coordinates N00.29.49.6 E029.40.19.4 in the South West Direction of Lusulube at around 10:00 am.

“During contact, 22 ADF terrorists were killed and the following charged from them; 4 SMG’s, 313 SMG rounds, 189PK rounds, 5 empty magazines, 5 Walkie Talkie Radios with their charger pots, 8 solar panels and 5 solar batteries, 11 pieces of Quran, 9 phones, 2 UPDF and 8 FARDC uniform shirts, 3 FARDC back packs and 2 ponchos,” he said in a statement.

He added that during the encounter, one UPDF soldier RA/234770 Pte Yasir Yasin was killed in action.

Since 2021, UPDF soldiers have been conducting joint military operations code-named “Operation Shujaa” against the ADF in the Eastern province of Congo. This resulted from escalated ADF attacks both in Uganda and DRC over the last quarter of 2021. Several ADF terrorists have been put out of action in this joint mission that has been considered successful.
