Biden, Trump Meet for Transition Talks
President Joe Biden hosted President-elect Donald Trump at the White House on November 13, 2024, aimed at ensuring a peaceful transition of power. This marked Trump’s return to the Oval Office for the first time since January 2021, underscoring the leaders' shared commitment to a seamless handover.
Describing the discussion as “substantive” and “gracious,” White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said the two leaders addressed critical topics, including national security, foreign policy, and domestic issues. Biden assured Trump of his administration’s support in facilitating an orderly transition. “It is a priority to maintain open communication,” Biden affirmed.
Trump, appreciative of Biden’s efforts, acknowledged the importance of the moment. “It is a nice world today,” he said, emphasizing the value of the peaceful transfer of power amid political differences.
First lady Jill Biden welcomed Trump upon his arrival and presented a congratulatory letter to pass on to Melania Trump. Though Melania was absent, she expressed her support through a statement, wishing Trump success in his return to leadership.
The meeting also restored a long-standing tradition that Trump had bypassed in 2020 when he neither invited Biden to the White House nor attended his inauguration.
