Uganda has won the East Africa Pamoja Bid to host the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The successful bid was announced by the State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang, who is in Cairo, Egypt where the Confederation of African Football (CAF) was today, Wednesday making it's final pronouncement on the Pamoja bid.

"Uganda's East Africa Pamoja Bid, to host 2027 AFCON finals, alongside Kenya and Tanzania has been approved by CAF here in Cairo, Egypt," Ogwang tweeted.

This will be the first time the AFCON finals will be hosted on East African soil. So far, 18 out of 54 countries have hosted AFCON.

"Our turn has now come! Thank you HE President Museveni and Minister of Education and Sports, First Lady, Janet Museveni and all Ugandans for standing with us. Congratulations Uganda and EAC, pamoja tumefika," Ogwang added.
