Bribery Case: Court Orders for Re-arrest of Former Minister Kabafunzaki

posted onMarch 2, 2021

The Anti Corruption court has ordered Police to arrest and produce former Minister for Labour, Herbert Kabafunzaki in court over bribery saga.

Justice Margaret Tibulya on Tuesday ordered for the re-arrest of Kabafunzaki to complete his pending corruption trial before the Anti Corruption Court. This is after he (Kabafunzaki) failed to show up in court for the second time.

In 2017, while serving as junior minister for Labour, Kabafunzaki was recorded on camera allegedly picking up a bribe of Shs5m from Hamid Mohammad Mohammad, Aya Hotel owner (now Pearl of Africa Hotel) to help clear him of sexual harassment accusations. He was subsequently arrested and charged with corruption offences. He was charged along with his personal assistant Bruce Lubowa.
