Forget everything that you know about the Pick-up world! The new Ford Ranger Raptor is set to hit the Ugandan market soon. This was disclosed by Richard Musani, the Ford Uganda Brand Manager who said that the Raptor, distributed by the Cooper Motor Corporation (CMC) Uganda has been designed and built to deliver the ultimate Ranger driving experience with a mind-blowing exterior that exudes toughness, capability and definitive off-road performance.

“A wealth of modern technology has been fitted into the Ranger Raptor and I guarantee customers will not be disappointed. The Raptor is equipped with the new 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo engine that delivers a maximum of 157kW of power and 500Nm of torque. This innovative power plant offers both high performance and efficiency, thanks to its combination of a small high-pressure turbo and a large low-pressure turbo that work to provide optimal performance throughout the engine speed range,” Musani said.

The Raptor's Bi-Turbo technology optimizes torque and power throughout the rev range with additional boost required during high engine speed. The integrated intake manifold has been upgraded to allow for a more efficient feed of air into the engine. The engine cover is specially designed with noise absorbing foam to reduce noise, vibration and harshness.

The Ranger Raptor is equipped with Ford’s all-new 10-speed automatic transmission, which is created with high-strength steel, aluminium alloys and composites to optimize durability and weight. Having 10 gears means a wider ratio-span, resulting in better acceleration and responsiveness in all driving conditions, matched to improved fuel efficiency.

With more room to optimise gear spacing, gear progression can be customised for more accurate and quicker shifts. It also features real-time adaptive shift-scheduling algorithms engineered to optimise gear selection. With a ground clearance of 283mm, the Raptor rides 46mm higher than regular Rangers, and it’s also kitted out with Fox Racing shock absorbers with Position Sensitive Damping as well as a new Watt’s linkage rear suspension with coilover springs. Sitting snugly in the Raptor's widened fenders is a set of 17-inch wheels wearing beefy 285mm-wide BF Goodrich All-terrain tyres.

The Raptor also comes with a Terrain Management System, allowing drivers to choose between six modes: ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’, ‘Grass/Gravel/Snow’, ‘Mud/Sand’, ‘Rock’ and ‘Baja’. At the rear, there's a unique box side, redesigned bumper and tow-bar integration along with a functional aluminum die-cast side step.

The steering wheel has a red stripe on top of the wheel as a centre marker. It also has unique spokes, debossed graphic and magnesium paddle shifters. The suspension includes standard front and rear Fox Racing Shox shock absorbers to help travel at high speeds off-road and includes increased ride height, wider track and improved approach and departure angles that ensure extreme off-road capability and stability.

There's also an innovative all-new Watt’s linkage rear suspension with coil over rear springs helps ensure rear axle lateral stability off-road while also improving ride and handling. Ranger Raptor’s chassis frame was designed for the vehicle to travel at high speeds off-road and endure off-road driving obstacles. The Raptor’s safety systems include Ford Stability Control, electronic stability control, trailer sway control, hill start assist, hill descent control and load adaptive control.
