Gen. Kainerugaba Meets Gen. Kale Kayihura
The Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba met former Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura.
Gen Kainerugaba, who is also the chairman of the MK Movement, welcomed Gen Kayihura at his residence in Kabale on Wednesday morning. The senior presidential advisor on Special Operations arrived in Kabale Tuesday afternoon ahead of the ‘Rukundo Egumeho’ concert, which will be held today, Wednesday, April 19, at Kigezi High School Playground.
It should be recalled that in 2021 Gen Kainerugaba took to Twitter to urge President Yoweri Museveni to pardon Gen Kayihura who was fired from the police in March 2018. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba also called for his rehabilitation.
"Gen K Kayihura was one of those special cadres in the early 1990s who inspired us to serve our nation. Others were late Generals Mayombo and Kazini. If he made mistakes, let us use revolutionary methods of work to rectify them. I request the CIC to forgive and rehabilitate him," Gen Kainerugaba tweeted.
In August 2018, Gen Kayihura was arraigned before the General Court Martial on three charges. Two counts were on failure to protect war materials contrary to Section 122 of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces Act of 2005 and the third count related to aiding and abetting the kidnap and repatriation of Rwandan refugees in Uganda contrary to Sections 19 and 242 of the Penal Code Act.
He was however released after nearly two-and-a-half months in military detention. He was released on a Ush10 million bond. His three sureties were bonded for Ush5 million each.
Meanwhile, the two generals are expected to attend the ‘Rukundo Egumeho’ concert, which has been organized to celebrate the reopening of the Uganda-Rwanda border. The event also coincides with the birthday week of Gen Kainerugaba.
Gen. Kainerugaba, who is also the senior presidential advisor on Special Operations, graced a number of activities on his first day in Kabale. The former Land Forces commander commissioned a Water Ambulance at Lake Bunyonyi, which is 8km from Kabale town and it will help save lives, especially those of mothers and their unborn babies.
At Kabale Municipal Playground, he laid a wreath on a monument and paid his respect to fallen FRONASA fighters that were publicly executed on former President Idi Amini's orders. The senior presidential advisor also officiated a friendly football match between Gicumbi F.C. from Rwanda and Kigezi Select from Uganda as one of the activities to kickstart the Katuna border reopening Thanksgiving concert.
A rave dubbed MK Street jam party was also held in Kabale town and a number of musicians, including Bebe Cool and Catherine Kusasira performed. Meanwhile, at some point during the day, Gen. Kainerugaba was filmed dancing alongside events promoter Balaam Barugahara and some other locals. They danced Runyege-Ntogoro and Kitaguriro. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi is the MK Movement National Vice Chairman for Western Uganda.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is expected to commission the construction of the Museveni-Kagame market in Katuna Town Council. It should be recalled that the army chief negotiated the re-opening of the border through a series of meetings with Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
