
Gen Kainerugaba Mourns First Commander in Chief, Queen Elizabeth II
The Ugandan Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and UPDF Commander of Land Forces -- Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has expressed sadness at the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
"Very sad to hear about the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. My condolences to the royal family, the British and Commonwealth peoples. She was an anchor of the English-speaking world and a commanding presence on the world stage. May she Rest In Peace," Gen Kainerugaba tweeted Thursday evening.
Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch whose rule spanned seven decades, died on Thursday at the age of 96, Buckingham Palace announced.
Gen Kainerugaba who attended the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst 22 years ago recently described the Queen as his first commander in chief.
On her platinum jubilee, Gen Kainerugaba sent her a congratulatory message as follows.
"I want to congratulate my first Commander-in-Chief, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on her platinum jubilee! 70 years as Sovereign of the United Kingdom and Head of the Commonwealth of English-speaking Nations. Long may she reign!" Gen Kainerugaba tweeted on 2 June 2022.
Following the Queen's death, his eldest son Prince Charles III will now take over as King.
