Gen Kainerugaba Tips Commandos on Integrity, Dealing with Civilians
The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, presided over the graduation ceremony of 211 Commando trainees at Ruhengyere Barracks in western Uganda where the graduands demonstrated various skills and tactics acquired during their training.
The trainees had successfully completed their rigorous 'Q' course, effectively making them part of the Commando Brigade of the UPDF. In his address, Gen. Kainerugaba emphasized the importance of upholding integrity in all aspects, especially in handling resources. The General also encouraged the commandos to foster a strong and meaningful relationship with civilians, emphasizing the need for sensitivity and generosity in all their interactions.
Gen. Kainerugaba further emphasized the significance of ethical behavior in their roles as commandos, maintaining a high level of professionalism and fitness at all times. Having overseen the growth of the Commando Brigade over the years, Gen Kainerugaba paid tribute to the pioneer Commandos who have provided leadership and guidance to their juniors.
Among those pioneers are Col Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru who is the Brigade commander. Col Alan Kyangungu, another pioneer of the Commando Brigade, was also present. The Commander of the Artillery Division, Brig Dan Kakono among other senior officers attended the event.
Col Mweteise thanked Gen Kainerugaba for sparing time to attend the graduation and for supporting the growth of the unit. He also thanked the President and Commander-in-Chief for recognising the importance of the commandos to the national security apparatus in general.
It should be remembered that in 2021, President Yoweri Museveni upgraded the then Commando Battalion to a Brigade after passing out 1,256 new commando soldiers. The Commando Brigade is a specialized unit under the Special Forces Command and is charged with carrying out specialized operations.
