The Minister of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Minsa Kabanda has directed that all taxis operating along Entebbe Road vacate the Old Taxi Park and return to Usafi Park and Kisenyi Park.

According to a September 16 statement, the development was reached after the minister meeting police, taxi leadership, the ministries of works and transport, and security so that they can look into streamlining operations of Entebbe Road Stages.

Taxis that use this road had shifted operations from Usafi Taxi Park to Old Taxi Park.

The minister has asked the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) enforcement team to remove all illegal stages specifically along Entebbe Road, Conrad Plaza, and Kibati areas.

"The enforcement team should have a permanent presence at these locations to deter any illegal loading," reads the statement.

KCCA has been tasked to continuously liaise with the contractor working around the Flyover Project to ensure that street lighting is functional and adequate space is left for pedestrians to walk towards USafi Park/

"They should ensure the walkways are free of any encumbrances," she said, adding that the directives take immediate effect.

"The... proposed interventions are intended to decongest the city, restore order and streamline operations of public transport within the central business district."
