KCCA Announces Date for Re-opening Old Taxi Park
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) says the Old Taxi Park will resume operations on May 22.
The Park has been under rehabilitation and the Authority is now working on a few remaining things like management and demarcations to re-open it.
“We are pleased to announce that KCCA has now substantially completed construction works to rehabilitate the Old Taxi Park and set to open for full operation. We are ensuring that the park is operated and managed better than it was before,” the Authority said in a statement.
“Having been in existence for over 50years, the COVID-19 outbreak, presented an opportunity to work on the park carpet area and immediate surrounding without interference from Taxis that had been grounded due to a nationwide lockdown”.
Rehabilitation commenced on May 7 and some of the activities that were conducted include drainage improvements, parking area & embankment construction and beautification of the Park.
In a statement, KCCA said it install of an Access Control System from 8th - 12th May, put down illegal structures (Billboards) from 8th - 10th May, and engaging Taxi operators' leadership on park governance and 13th and 14th May.
Labeling/marking of stages will be done from 15th - 16th May and dry runs to test operational readiness will be on 17th and 18th May.
