The dilemma of finding a suitable presidential flag bearer under the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to challenge NRM's Yoweri Museveni in 2021 Elections, continues as Erias Lukwago declines to take the mantle.

The Najjanankumbi based opposition political Party has been in a deep crisis for a presidential flag bearer after the party founder Dr Kizza Besigye declined to take up the seat to challenge President Museveni for the 5th time in a row.
It is the same reason that FDC recently postponed election for their presidential flag bearer. This came a midst speculations that FDC top leaders were negotiating with Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago to cross to FDC and contest as the presidential flag bearer.

However, having officially crossed to the FDC last month, Lukwago has shockingly returned to contest as Kampala Lord Mayor. Lukwago on Thursday arrived at FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi where he was duly nominated to contest for Kampala Lordship seat where he is most likely to retain his seat.

In his maiden speech as an FDC member, Lukwago downplayed speculations that he is crossing to FDC to contest for the presidential flag. He said that his decision to join FDC is not informed by the desire to come for anything material, or political scheming or what he termed as freebies or a meal card, but rather to work with a team of patriotic, charismatic leaders to build a free and just society.

With both Lukwago and Besigye out of the presidential race, FDC is still pondering to find a competent flag bearer to front for the forthcoming General election. Other candidates that the party is now considering are; Nandala Mafabi (FDC Secretary General), Patrick Amuriat (FDC President),  Joyce Bbosa Ssebugwawo or even Wasswa Birigwa.
