Makerere University Sets Reporting Dates for Freshers

Makerere University has released reporting, orientation dates for freshers for the 2021/2022 Academic Year.

According to a communication issued by Alfred Masikye-Namoah, the University’s Academic Registrar, freshers(first year students) will report on 29th January, 2022 and will undergo one weeklong orientation starting on Monday 31st January, 2022 to Friday 4th February, 2022. Masikye said that by tradition, Makerere University gives first year students an “acclimatization” period of one week which is referred to as the “Orientation Week.”

During this time, the new students are introduced to the key facilities in the University as well as other important aspects of life at the University such as the Library, University Hospital, Games and Recreation Facilities etc.

Another major activity during the Orientation Week is Registration of the new students. All Freshers must ensure that they are registered first centrally and then with each of their respective Colleges/Schools/Departments/Halls.

According to the University guidelines, registration will commence on Monday 31st January, 2022 as a mandatory requirement of the University which must be done within the first two (2) weeks from the beginning of the semester by every student. Privately sponsored students are expected to pick their original admission letters after payment of 60% tuition and all functional fees from their respective colleges.

Schedule of Semesters for 2021/2022 Academic Year

Orientation Week: Saturday 29th January, 2022 to Friday 4th February, 2022 (7 Days) –

Semester One: Saturday 5th February, 2022 to Saturday 15th May, 2022 (14 Weeks)

Semester Two: Monday 30th May, 2022 to Sunday 4th September, 2022 (14 Weeks).
