President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday commissioned 15 factories and broke ground at the Mbale Industrial Park. That means that Park now has more 24 new factories.

"This has been possible because of correct policy decisions using our resources," President Museveni tweeted following the commissioning. "I therefore thank the NRM who understood our vision and strategy and supported it."

He also thanked development partners for their commitment to improving the industrial sector in the East African nation.

"I also thank our Chinese friends for encouraging investments in Africa," he said. "I particularly want to thank the investors who invested in textiles because they have given us the strength to get rid of second-hand clothes and most importantly, given jobs to our youth."

Also known as the Sino-Uganda Industrial Park,  once fully operational, the facility will house 55 factories, creating over 15,000 jobs, mainly for the local population.
