President Yoweri Museveni has mourned the former Bank of Uganda Governor, Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile as an exceptional economist who served his country with utmost humility.

Mutebile, 72, died on Sunday morning at Nairobi Hospital where he was admitted since December 31, 2021, after he collapsed due to complications related to diabetes. Museveni on Monday paid tribute to the deceased on Twitter saying, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of the Bank of Uganda Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.

Mutebile was an exceptional economist; a humble servant whose acumen and perspectives on economic matters were singular.”

“He will be remembered for steering the economy of our country through a strong tide. My heartfelt condolences to the family, and all his relations. May God grant his soul eternal rest,” Museveni said.

According to the Minister of Information, Chris Baryomunsi, Mutebile’s body is expected to be flown back to Uganda on Tuesday. On Thursday, his body will be wheeled to Parliament where MPs will pay their last respects and later pay tribute in a special sitting.
