Police shared how routes and traffic diversions will be managed during the Non-Aligned Movement and G77 + China Summits that kick off today, January 15, and end on January 23.

The summits will be attended by President Yoweri Museveni and many other heads of state and government and delegates. The main venue for the summits will be Commonwealth Speke Resort Munyonyo.

SP Michael Kananura, while speaking for the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety, said the main routes for the summits will are Kampala-Entebbe Expressway to Speke Resort Munyonyo, which will be the summit route and Kampala-Entebbe Expressway–Northern Bypass–Binaisa Road, Mulago Roundabout-Yusuf Lule–Nile Avenue, which covers the stretch from Entebbe International Airport via Kajjansi Interchange.

He said that this corridor is expected to be tightly regulated with diversions though the regulation of traffic flow will take into consideration local and international flights to access Kampala or the airport.

Traffic Diversions will be effected as follows if the need arises:

At Mpala, traffic will be diverted to Entebbe Highway. At Kisubi, traffic will be diverted to Nakawuka Road and access Kampala city. At the Kajjansi Flyover, traffic will be diverted to use the Kajjansi Flyover to Lubowa – Zana.

There will be diversions at Serena–Kigo traffic lights, Mutungo–Kitiko traffic lights, and Busabala traffic lights for any vehicle sighted along the Munyonyo Spur.

There will be a security checkpoint to screen all vehicles and diversion of motorists at the Munyonyo roundabout to face Salaama Road and Buziga. Any motorist approaching Munyonyo from Gaba Road will be diverted at UCB Road to access Buziga – Lukuli.

At the Northern Bypass, there will be a diversion at the Busega Flyover and at a slip road to restrict vehicles from accessing the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway.

There will be other traffic diversions along the Northern Bypass at Sentema, Nansana, Bwaise, Kalerwe, Kyebando, and Kisaasi interchange, flyover, and slip roads.

At the Bwaise Flyover, traffic will be diverted to Sir Apollo Kagwa Road to access the city center.

Traffic police will hold traffic flow at other road junctions, and access roads and regulate it according to the movement of delegates.

No motorcycles will be allowed to access the summit route (Entebbe Airport to Speke Resort Munyonyo).

Some boda boda stages along the summit routes and hotels where the visiting heads of state will be residing will be relocated and absorbed into other stages during the summit period.

The Traffic Police advised all travelers who have flights at Entebbe International Airport to plan their Journeys in time to avoid inconveniences or delays.
