Viewers on DStv can look forward to thrills and spills from the world’s best basketball league, with ESPN the premier venue for coverage of the National Basketball Association (NBA), which sees pre-season matches for the 2020-21 campaign during this week of Friday 18 to Thursday 24 December 2020.

DStv is your home of the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network.

The first pre-season action available on ESPN is the meeting of the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics on the morning of Saturday 19 December (03:00 LIVE on ESPN).

The Celtics are set to begin the new season without the services of Kemba Walker, who insists he won’t be back on the court until his troublesome left knee is fully ready to withstand the rigours of playing at a high level.

"There's no rush. There's no rush on my end," Walker explained.

"I'm coming back when I need to come back and when I'm feeling good to play. So that's it. This is, I haven't really been a guy who has been hurt over the course of my career. So this sucks, but I also love the game of basketball and I want to play at a high level in front of the fans who come to watch this game.

"I want to be at my best. The last time in the playoffs, I wasn't at my best, and that sucked. I don't want to be that way no more."

The first of two broadcast games between the LA Lakers and the Phoenix Suns arrives on the morning of Saturday 19 December (05:30 LIVE on ESPN), while the next will be on Thursday 24 December (05:30 LIVE on ESPN).

Veteran guard Chris Paul has joined the Phoenix Suns and is looking to be more than just a mentor with his new team: "Everyone always talks about what I can teach [Devin Booker] or teach some of these other guys, but they're teaching me at the same time too," Paul said.

"I'm not James Naismith by no means. First things first, I'm not just coming in here trying to teach everybody. I'm his teammate. We're here to hoop, we're here to compete and that's how I approach this."

The Suns view Paul's arrival as one which will help them both on the court and off of it.

"We added a first-ballot Hall of Fame point guard to our team," coach Monty Williams said.

"Obviously, that comes with a bit of sacrifice, but we felt like it was one that was more than worth the risk, and we felt like there wasn't much negative risk.”
