Dr. Hassan Wasswa Galiwango, the new Ugandan high commissioner to Kenya on Wednesday presented his credentials to President Uhuru Kenyatta at the State House in Nairobi.
Galiwango replaces Phibby Otaala Awere who resigned to contest in the NRM primaries for Woman MP Tororo District.
As he presented the documents, Dr. Galiwango conveyed greetings from President Museveni to his Kenyan counterpart and promised to work with the Kenyan government to further strengthen ties between the two nations.
Kenya remains one of Uganda’s major trading partners though in the recent past there have been some standoffs as Kenya blocked commodities like milk and sugar from entering its market. Dr. Galiwango, according to a statement from the foreign affairs ministry, said he was “committed to further strengthen this trade for mutual benefit” of both countries’ citizens.
He also congratulated President Uhuru upon his assumption of the chairmanship of the East African Community and assured him of Uganda’s full cooperation. After accepting the documents, Kenyatta congratulated the ambassador and asked him to closely work on the bilateral and EAC integration issues.
